In 1993, “Ghana bread” was one of the most popular things to eat in Lagos.

According to a Newswatch investigation, there were over 20 Ghanaian-run bakeries in Lagos, producing more than a third of the city’s bread supply.

The bread was cheaper, bigger, and stayed fresh longer than local loaves. Hawkers said it moved faster in traffic, especially around Oshodi, Maryland, and major expressways.

Bakers credited its popularity to heavy ******* er, sugar, milk, and longer baking hours, basically a richer recipe.

Nutritionists, however, warned that the high sugar content could weaken the body and increase health risks like diabetes.
